This – like most vehicular laws in NYC – is not enforced, and is really just symbolic.
You know what’s worse? School buses that spew out toxic diesel fumes, as well as not having seat belts. And heaven forbid you are anywhere near an idling ambulance whose aroma is detectable from 10 blocks away- you may need that ambulance to treat you for an asthma attack. I’m sure Bloomberg will get right on that though.
A lot of air and noise pollution along the Henry Hudson.
If we really want to support our troops, and keep ourselves safe in the crazy world we live in, we should reduce our wanton use of petroleum products. The idling “gesture” is a good way to stay in that mindset. Oil is a valuable resource. Let’s not waste it. It’s just too bad that there are a lot of very bad actors on top of all the dead dinosaurs that power our lives.
The movie addresses the worst offenders – school buses, emergency vehichles, utility trucks.
